Making Aussie Christians more Influential

Honouring Easter; Honouring ANZACS.

Let us honour our ANZACs and the teachings of Christ by putting time, money and effort into keeping Australia as a nation of fairness for rich and poor alike. Let us guide our governments through our elected parliaments as democracy allows. Then they will properly serve our community. That’s what we elect and pay them for. Making Aussie Voters more Influential is part of that  of helping one another process.

Local MPs have very limited power

Each Australian voter can only elect one MP in the May 2025 elections. There are 226 Federal MPs in the Parliament. 151 in the House of representatives and 75 in the Senate. So the one local MP we each elect has very limited power indeed to influence parliamentary decisions, particularly if they are not in the party with the majority and thus government. Majority opinion prevails.

Influential Voters

That is where Votergrams come in. Votergrams allow Australian Christians to become very  Influential Voters in the nicest of ways. They are able to engage with each and every Member of Federal Parliament. They can express their own wishes for what should be done or the wishes of their community or advocacy group. Importantly they can explain their reasons to all MPs. Politicians need to be convinced with good evidence based arguments.

Don’t get into judging politicians by what the media tells you. It is by working with all MPs that voters gain the greatest power and influence to guide government in its decisions for Australia’s future.

Some Aussies ask why Votergrams are not free.

Paying adds Power

For Votergrams to be free they would have to be either funded by government or funded by some other organisation. Whoever funded the Votergram service would control what Votergrams did. We could not expect to get good government, if the government held the Votergram purse-strings! We also would not want to give the power of the Votergrams to a wealthy individual or big business enterprise for it to control.

But most of all, by the Votergram senders paying for their Votergrams, they are completely in control of their polite and respectful Votergrams. That way they send a powerful message to the MPs that they are serious about what needs to be done. They may well cast their next vote according to how the MPs and parties respond to the Votergram. They can also influence votes in any marginal electorate.

Covering costs

There is considerable cost involved in providing the service to all Australians. Then they can engage with their elected representatives in every Australians Parliament on every conceivable topic. The modest fee of about 22 cents per federal MP Votergramed is designed to cover those cost. It gets a little help from individual donations.

Words of wisdom

As we celebrate Christmas, with proper respect for those of other faiths or no faiths, it seems worthwhile to acknowledge some words of wisdom from Jesus that helped create Votergrams, as recorded in Matthew’s gospel.

Don’t get angry. Sort it out with the other party and move on. Matt 5:23

When someone asks for something give it to them Chapter 5: verse 42

Love your enemies 5:44

Don’t boast about how you helped someone. 6:3

Forgive others who offend you 6:14.

Don’t store up riches for yourself 6:20

Don’t judge others 7:1

Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.7:7

Do for others what you want them to do for you. 7:12 (eg MPs)

Be on your guard against false prophets 7:15.

It is kindness I want. 9:13

Be as cautious as snakes and as gentle as lambs. 10:16

Your words will be used to judge you 12:37

The parable of the sower 13:18 ( Sow seeds of good ideas in parliament and watch them grow into policies.)

At Christmas we see Jesus as a baby. In adulthood he offered some good hints for improving society. Have a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
